Job Description:

Organization: The California Reinvestment Coalition (CRC) is a statewide coalition of 250 nonprofit organizations whose goal is to end predatory lending, support community needs and expand access to fair finance. CRC is a small, dynamic organization offering this challenging opportunity to stop predatory payday lending in California.

Project: The Organizer will grow a comprehensive campaign to change policy on predatory payday lending at state and local levels. Thousands of California payday lenders target low-income people, immigrants, and people of color with predatory 459 percent loans.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow a comprehensive campaign to change payday lending practices.
  • Coalition-building with faith-based, labor, membership organizations, communities of color, and other community-based organizations.
  • Organize local community campaigns in partnership with CRC members and community leaders to strengthen local ordinances governing predatory lending practices.
  • Build a strong statewide voice for reform of predatory lending.
  • Lead policy-making effort to change state law.
  • Define evolving outcomes of the campaign in concert with Executive Director.
  • Interact with national network of payday activists.

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years experience in organizing.
  • Ability to plan and develop successful policy reform campaign.
  • Ability to translate financial issues into community and grassroots organizing efforts.
  • Experienced public speaker.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish or other major languages spoken in California preferred
  • Excellent word processing, and financial spreadsheets skills preferred.
