Host Agency: Mercy Housing California, Sacramento

University: Saint Mary’s College of California

Mia Gutierrez recently graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a degree in Economics and a minor in Sociology. She was born and raised in Sacramento, lived in the Bay Area during her undergraduate studies, and now returned to her hometown to begin her journey in community development.

Learning about the struggles her grandparents experienced to secure safe housing as immigrants and seeing the success affordable housing can offer families, has led her to develop a passion of service to her community. Her experience as a Resident Hall Liaison on campus has also strengthened her passion. The benefits that affordable housing can offer to stabilize families has influenced Mia’s passion for community development in the realm of affordable housing. Being surrounded by experts in affordable housing development to learn from, excites Mia as she aspires to be an affordable housing developer. She hopes to learn and to be exposed to as much of the development process in real time as she begins her CCRH internship. In her future career, she hopes to advocate and bring the level of success that affordable housing can offer to more families across her community.
