Samantha Okabe graduated from University of California, Davis with her degree in Cognitive Science. In addition to Samantha’s interests in the mind, she found herself intrigued in housing.
In 2017, Samantha obtained her California Real Estate Salesperson License and is currently in the process of becoming dual licensed in her home state, Hawai’i. After learning more about real estate, Samantha realized that she wanted to explore housing outside of sales. She later interned for California’s Department of Housing and Community Development in the Policy Division (HCD). During her time at HCD, she became familiar with current housing legislature, ensured the compliance of jurisdictions, and conducted her own research on the lack of affordable housing as a barrier to education.
In the coming years, Samantha plans to obtain more experience in housing development. She plans to pursue graduate school, focusing on either Real Estate Development or Property Law. Her aspiration is to advocate and assist all individuals in having housing as a basic need. Being in the CCRH Internship Program and interning at Mercy Housing is an opportunity that Samantha believes will help her achieve this goal.
During Samantha’s free time, she enjoys getting out and exploring as much as quiet days at home. She often goes to the gym, beach, concerts, and on day/road trips. On relaxing days at home, she loves to paint, write, and play with her dog and cat.
