Adelaida Hernandez Santiago
Host Agency: Fresno Housing Authority
University: California State University, Fresno
Adelaida is a first-generation indigenous immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico. In spring 2022 she graduated with her B. A in Sociology and a minor in Chicano Latino Studies from California State University, Fresno. She migrated to California's Central Valley when she was eight years old, and she continues to call the Central Valley her home.
As an immigrant Adelaida and her family have experienced housing insecurity and unsafe housing. Due to her personal experiences with housing insecurity Adelaida is very excited about learning about affordable housing and being exposed to a sector that is not common for people of color.
She feels privileged to be part of the 25th annual cohort of CCRH interns. She hopes to gain the necessary skills to understand the affordable housing sector that can lead her to be in spaces where decisions are made.
In her free time, she likes to get to know her community and volunteer as well as have conversations about what it means to be indigenous on her podcast Oaxaca an Empowered Generation.
